Please don't waste your money...

Written: Aug 10 '01 (Updated Aug 10 '01)
Pros:Rides are exciting
Cons:Very expensive, indifferent staff, very poor maintenance
The Bottom Line: Extremely poor value for your money.

I visited the park on August 2, 2001. The prices have changed. The new adult admission is $27.95 per person. Our admission was under $19.00 per person, thanks to a coupon found in most of the free Las Vegas magazines. Unfortunately, the admission price is just that-admission only. If you need a locker ($5.00+ $3.00 deposit)or innertube ($6.00/$8.00 single/double +$5.00 deposit), you're going to pay more.
Our problems started when my brother attempted to rent a locker for his personal belongings. He paid the attendant, but when he got to the assigned locker, the key didn't work. He went back to the rental booth (not located near any of the lockers), and after some discussion received a different locker and key. Unfortunately, this one didn't work either. Back to the booth, another locker and key. Didn't work. We lost actual count, but I would estimate 10-11 trips back and forth. At one point, the attendant accompanied my brother and I to the locker room with a handful of keys. He couldn't make any of them work, so he just shrugged and told us "You'll just have to come back with me and try another". Over 1 hour later, we finally hit upon the magical combination of locker and key.
By this time, we (and the rest of our party of 11) were ready for some fun. We headed out to ride some of the rides, only to discover that they don't open all the rides until later in the day. If you go before 3:00 pm, anticipate that only some of rides will be open. I believe the floating river and the wave pool are always open. Both are big favorites of kids, especially the younger children.
We tried the Raging Rapids ride first. Anticipate long lines for most rides, especially during the times when only a few rides are open. 40-45 minutes seems about the average wait, at least during a weekday in August. When we got to the front of the line was the first indication of the poor upkeep of this park. Approximately 1 out of every 10 tubes that came down were too flat to use, so the attendant threw them on a growing pile. I was also appalled at the attitude of the attendant, who was apparently having a bad day. Her rude behavior stopped just short of outright hostility towards the customers. The ride itself was OK, although at several places the current wasn't strong enough to keep the tubes moving. At these points, attendants were stationed to push you farther downstream. Their goal appeared to be pushing you down backwards, so you would dump off your tube.
We tried the mat ride next, and I can really recommend this one. Really fast with great turns and dips. It helps if you can get one of the newer mats with the bottom surface intact. In the same vein, the inner tube ride right next to it was given extremely high marks by my wife and sister.
By this time, we saw they had opened up all the rides in the park. We walked to the other side of the park to try out some of the more exciting rides. However, right as we got to the first one, a staff member sat down in a chair and blocked the entrance. We asked why they had closed the ride, and got a grunted "maintenance" in return. We shrugged and went to the next ride, where exactly the same thing happened. The situation was becoming a little irritating. My wife asked the staff member if we could expect some refund of our admission price, since 3 of the rides were out of service. "No...you should be grateful you're here today, because yesterday none of them were working".
We decided to try the toboggan ride. Another 45 minute wait, due to the fact that they only had 6 operational toboggans. A very exciting ride, but not worth the wait because it only lasts about 15 seconds. While we were waiting, we noticed that the first ride they closed appeared to open again. Upon further inspection, we found that it was only open to staff members, but not the general public. It looked like a great deal of fun.
To sum my experience up-
1) Very expensive
2) Incredibly poor upkeep
3) Hostile, rude staff
4) Fun rides, when you can get on them.
