| eichster's Full Review: Audubon Institute Aquarium of the Americas |
We are New Orleans residents and love our aquarium! It's a great place to go anytime, but especially on our unbearably hot summer days or when it's too cold outside for the kids. Our preschool age girls have a wonderful time exploring the canopy of the rain forest, petting the baby sharks and sea stars, and watching the otters wrestle. The sea horses and jelly fish exhibits are unique and beautiful.
I suppose the admission costs can be steep for families, but we purchased a family pass for less than $100. It includes unlimited admission to the aquarium and the zoo. Even for tourists, this could be a good deal. Ticket prices are around $10 for each facility. A family of four could spend $80+ in one-day admissions.
There is a Burger King and Papa John's pizza on the second floor of the aquarium so lunch is taken care of. Or you could get your hand stamped before you leave, visit one of New Orleans' amazing restaurants and go back. It takes 2-3 hours to look at all the exhibits. We usually don't take that long because the kids run to their favorites.
Don't miss the Bald Eagle and white alligator in the Mississippi River exhibit. The penguin exhibit is being renovated and will reopen November 2000.
