| wendyinthetree's Full Review: Brookfield Zoological Park |
My husband and I had to go to Chicago to pick my girls up from the airport from their visit to Florida. Since we were right there we drove the 15 minutes from Midway Airport to the Brookfield Zoo.
The four of us got in for $21.00, which is less than a movie for four now.
As we entered the zoo the first thing we saw was the beautiful fountain in the middle of a huge grass area that is beautifully landscaped.
We spent the next five and a half hours traveling from one end of the globe to the other. From A to Z, this zoo has got it all. Start with some Aardvarks, bats and camels. Then make your way to hippos, kangaroos, and penguins. Have a little lunch, then check out some rhinos. I will never forget visiting these rhinos!
As we walked through where they house these cute guys we stopped to watch one at play. I stood and took some pictures and we talked to the girls about just how massive they are. As we watched the rhino "had to pee" :). Now, if you have never witnessed this, which I had not, you may be a little surprised!
Imagine someone blasting a fire hose! It really cracked us up! Thankfully he was facing us when he did this! It was then that I saw the sign that read...Stand back....something about the rhinos having to relieve themselves often and it could be messy!
So we headed out of the rhino house quickly before we got wet! On the way out we stopped at a machine where you pay a dollar and it proceeds to make you a plastic mold of the animal, these are inexpensive souvenirs for the kids and help them remember what they have seen.
After you see the rhinos then you can go on to seals, tigers and finally zebras.
The list is long! This is a great place for animal lovers, it's a great place to learn, and also a great place to spend some time with your family. The time flew by and we really had a blast.
The zoo also has daily Dolphin Presentations, which are $2.50 for adults and $2.00 for kids 3 and up as well as seniors.
If you don't feel like you have the energy to walk all day then you can catch a ride from one part to another on the Motor Safari for a small fee ($0 to $2.50 depending on age) and get a round trip ride. You can hop off at one stop, look around, and then jump back on to go to the next stop.
There are plenty of restrooms, places to eat and gift shops. Also, there are stroller, wheelchair and wagon rentals at both gates.
The zoo is open everyday from 9:30 to 6:00, so plan to spend the day there to catch all the sights.
