Pros:size, location, beauty
Cons:lines at food stands
I have a 3 year old and we have become zoo members. It is a wise move if you have children to purchase a zoo membership. The cost is roughly $56.00 a year for the cheapest membership but is well worth the price. With it you get unlimited admission and parking for 1 full year. Also you get 4 free passes for friends. This zoo is most beautiful in the spring and fall. It is quite wooded so there is plenty of color. It is kept very clean. It can get quite crowded at times but is so big that you have plenty of opportunities to see all the animals.
My daughter is especially in love with the dolphins where they have underwater viewing. The dolphin show is worth the small admission fee. If you like gorillas, the Tropic World exhibit is marvelous. You can spend an hour just watching them interact. Here you stand above the pit and peer down on the gorillas. With a mountain in the middle that they climb on, they can actually be at your level without bars.
Some other notable exhibits are Habitat Africa, The Marsh, The Childrens Zoo and a new baby polar bear. Also available for viewing, if you like that kind of thing, are reptiles. I tend to skip this exhibit.
They have a great tram that takes you through the park for a fee, that little kids love. They also have wagons and 2 or 3 different types of strollers for rent. These are not cheap so if you have your own, bring it. You can also save by bringing in your own picnic lunch. There is a lot of open area to sit on the lawn for a picnic. The food offered is OK.
Opening soon is a new childrens area that has been in the works for about 2 years now, so I am very excited to see the outcome.
