| lizf's Full Review: New Jersey State Aquarium |
I was so unimpressed with the New Jersey State Aquarium this is going to be hard to write. My basic impression of the day we spent at the aquarium is one of disappointment and boredom. I'm actually having a hard time remembering what's there...
I have a vague memory of a big building that was pretty comfortable and nice looking. I remember there was one really huge tank that was supposed to recreate the Atlantic ocean, and that's all I really remember about the place. It's a shame. You'd think the state of New Jersey could get it together enough to put up a decent aquarium.
I actually live closer to the NY Aquarium in Brooklyn. Now that's a darned cool aquarium! Maybe I was just jaded by the great aquarium they have in New York. But, I've also been to the Baltimore Aquarium and I was very impressed by that one, too. Heck, I even enjoyed little aquarium on Jenkinson's Boardwalk in Point Pleasant more than the NJ State Aquarium... so I don't think it's just me. I think the NJ Aquarium is weak.
I was especially disappointed by the things the NJ Aquarium didn't have. They didn't have dauphins or whales... there were no big mammals. There were no big things at all. Everything was small and miniature... and not much of that.
Also, I wasn't really crazy about the neighborhood where they had the aquarium. It was in the middle of no where. There were no restaurants or shops or places to go or things to do when you finished your five minute tour of the aquarium. We spent most of our time in the car going and coming. Overall, the day was a disappointment.
I guess if it's a really rainy day and you have a house full of kids -- taking them to the aquarium is better than letting them run wild in your house. But I wouldn't go again for my personal enjoyment. I'd head over to the NY Aquarium or if I really wanted to stay in Jersey -- I'd pick a different attraction.
