When I went to the NJ State Aquarium I expected so much. After all, it is the STATE Aquarium. What a let down. We went in July and it was very crowded. I didn't have to worry about parking because we took the ferry over from Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. That was nice.
The visitors were rude. They were forever jumping in front of us and walking around like they were the only people in the whole aquarium!
(I have the same problem in the supermarket, but that's a whole other topic.)
The exhibits I found boring. Actually, there was one cool one! You would look above your head and there was a small tank FILLED with fish...it was really neat. But, there was really nothing there that peaked our interest. It was clean, which was a good point. But Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ is so much better, even though it is smaller. I would choose that one over the State Aquarium any day.
I would recommend this aquarium to folks who haven't been to many, if any, before. But, if you really want to see something great in NJ go to Point Pleasant Beach and visit Jenkinson's Aquarium. You'll fall in love with Lu Seal, the seal. She was found in the Manasquan Inlet after being attacked by a shark. She is blind in one eye from the attack and went blind in the other from (I believe) cataracts. The way she can swim and navigate in her tank is just magnificent poetry!
