This is a great place for a family trip. We have made this a yearly trip for our family now for several years. We plan on keeping it a family trip until our kids decide they just don't want to go anymore.
Sea World can definitely be expensive at thirty some dollars per adult and twenty some dollars per child. Plus food and souvenirs. But I think it's well worth it.
There is lots to do and you will be totally exhausted when you leave.
Shamu Show
This, of course, is the main show you are going to see. To see an animal this size do the tricks it does is amazing. It also shows how graceful they can be and how gentle they are with people. This is also a major splash show, sit in the first 10 rows and you will be soaked. This is great if it's a hot day, the temperature of the water is around 50 degrees. They also do this show at nighttime, and we always make sure we see it. There is only one night show, so if you want good seats make sure you are early. This is mainly a show full of music and lots of splashing, tons more than during the day show. Since I have a child who loves to be soaked, we always get there very early so she can sit in the first row with her father, they are both totally drenched when it is over.
Sea Lion Show
This is a very funny show. The show is called "Fools with Tools" and its just showing how funny the animals can be. The show consists of Sea Lions, some otters and a special appearance by a walrus, talk about a huge ugly animal. This is definitely a must see show also.
All Star Mutts Show
This show is really cute. It's full of dogs and cats that were rescued from the humane society and trained to do amazing things. A dog drives an electric car, a cat hangs upside down on a tightrope and climbs across it, this was totally amazing. There are also different contests between the animals. There are also some other animals that do some tricks like, birds, a pig and more.
Water-skiing Show
This show has gymnastics, water-skiing and a jet ski show. This show is about two teams trying to be the winner. My favorite part is when two jet skis, which are approximately 25 feet in the air, are on this ramp and they fly down it to see who can go the farthest. Looks like fun to me. This show is full of entertainment and has audience participation. They also pick a few members to be special judges.
You can also feed the sea lions real fish and you can feed the dolphins fish too. The dolphins will come right up to you and you can pet them.
There is penguin viewing. They are in a cold climate cage and you get on this moving sidewalk to go in front of them. This keeps people from standing in front of them all day.
There are also many other things to view and see.
The shows are scheduled many times throughout the day and evening so you will be able to see them all.
When you're tired of seeing shows, there's plenty of entertainment for the kids. They have a huge playground, with an amazing climbing area for the older kids and adults. There are several play areas only for small children, there is also a huge sandbox area. There are a couple of areas where the kids can play and get soak and wet. You could really spend a half a day just playing in this area.
Right now the park is having a Mardi Gras theme, this was great fun, as it was just like being at Mardi Gras. We bought some of those bead necklaces. A band played all evening, there was lots of southern food being cooked on the grill, lots of people dressed up as different characters, lots of clowns and jugglers and there was a man on stilts that must have put him 25 feet in the air. I was trying to take a picture of him with my kids and he just picked them up and put them on his shoulder, my kids were like, oh my gosh!
As you can see this place is really full of fun. If you must spend the night there are lots of hotels that are close by. We even got a weekend special one year, where two adult tickets came with our hotel rate. If you have young children that just can't make it all day, it's easy enough to go to your hotel for awhile and then go back in the evening, we always use to do that. But this last year my kids made it all day, we were there from 10am to 10pm.
