We visited this zoo while on a trip to Pensacola. Coming from a city with a world-class zoo, we weren't disappointed. You can buy pellets to feed to most of the animals in the park. My 4 and 2 year olds loved it. You get the chance to feed gentle birds, tiny deer-like creatures, cows, goats, and even a GIRAFFE! I had never seen a condor before my visit.
There is a wooden bridge you can walk over to see zebras, ostriches, deer and wildebeasts roaming free. The best part is the train ride through the refuge, seeing gorillas and chimpanzees in the trees on their "islands". The guide knows the animals intimately and was able to tell their histories and temperments. The lions and big cats are separated by only a chain link fence. One lion charged at a bird strolling by the fence and gave us a good scare. Some of the cages seem cruel and primitive, like the chain link lion enclosure, but the interiors try ot make the animals comfortable. There is a carousel to ride and a small restaurant, which was closed the day we went, however.
The admissions costs were high; but this is a private zoo that doesn't receive federal funding. We enjoyed ourselves very much.
