As a member of a ski club we often ski at Fernie.
The trails to this point have been pretty limited and the hill is best suited to the intermediate skier. Some upgrades are in the works, and this should address one of Fernie's glaring problems - accommodations.
On many occasions when we skied Fernie we were skiing in less than ideal situations (fog, rain) but something kept drawing us back. It's just a FUN hill. Where else can you meet a group of people skiing in green garbage bags in the rain?
Fernie does have some awesome runs when the snow is good - particularly the back bowl. We've done this in powder so deep that you disappear if you fall!
I've used the ski school and was impressed with the level of the instructor.
Night life is limited but not impossible to find.
Definitely check a snow report before you make the trip.
