| swells's Full Review: Whistler-Blackcomb |
Whistler/Blackcomb Mt. In British Columbia Canada is a wonderful vacation resort for couples and families alike year round, but of course winter is the best for those ski buffs. We went last Feb. for one week. You can walk/ski to almost any lift from you hotel or condo. This resort is good for advanced and beginners. Lots of lessons available for skiing and snow boarding. They also have a wonderful free bus service for getting around town. The bus drivers was so nice, all we had to do was tell them where we wanted to go and they made sure we got off at the correct stop. Then the driver would point us in the direction we needed to be. The snow level is 6-8 feet base almost year around. We found everything you could ask for in a resort. The people working there were also very friendly, most of the ski resort and restaurant workers are from New Zealand and Australia. It's summer for them and they're very happy to make your stay and or meal most memorable. I can say without a doubt we did not receive any bad service. It's one of the few areas that seems to like their tourists.
I would suggest staying in a Condo with a kitchen. That way you can make your own meals and not have to brave the cold for dinner if you'd like to have a nice dinner at home with a warm fire.
We went on a package deal that included the Condo, lift tickets and bus ride to and from the airport to the Condo. I would not suggest including the bus ride in the package. It would be easier finding your own way to your hotel or Condo. Maybe renting a car or you can ask for a limo ride after you exit customs. They have a large travel center there that most times have great deals for car rentals and limo rides. Next time we'll take a chance and hope we can find someone to share the limo with. The lady there said you can almost always find someone who will share the ride with you. It may not be cheaper than the bus ride but it get's you there sooner and you don't have to stop a thousand times picking up other people. The bus had problems finding us when it was time to pick us up for the return and we missed our plane. I was not able to call the bus company to find out where they were because the office wasn't open that early. We could have used that time to ski or sleep. We then had to sit in the airport for 8 hours for the next plane.
Now is a great time to visit Canada with the Canadian dollar being so weak, the American dollar goes a long way. The Canadian's love us bringing our American dollars there.
If you have someone in you party that does not like to ski, there is still plenty to do. They could catch a movie, or rent a movie to view in the hotel or Condo, (most placed have a VCR), horse drawn buggy rides, snow shoe nature hike with guides(includes lunch), snow mobile guided trips (includes lunch), wonderful shopping, very nice new ice rink, and much more.
