I skied out at Blackcomb/Whistler out in the Spring of 1996.
What an experience, the vastness of the terrain makes this the place to go for all levels, although a more advanced skier will be able to take much better advantage of the terrain than a novice. The vastness of the terrain is well illustrated on the website, they have much more acreage than most mountains in North America.
I had the chance to ski Soudan Couloir (7th Heaven,Blackcomb), said be the steepest face in North America, an experience that I am not about to forget any time soon.
The morning "first tracks" was also a fun program where you get up top the mountain an hour before it opens for everyone else and have breakfast, followed by skiing down. This is especially great when there is 7 inches of ungroomed powder on the slopes.
I am not too familiar with the apres-ski, but it seemed to be better than most American resorts. Whistler Village is a fun place but does not have a whole bunch of character, and is not too far from Vancouver, making it easily accessible. The drive up from Vancouver is a very beautiful one as well.
If this is your first time skiing, try a less intimidating place - but if you are a good skier, it will be the time of your life.
