Saalbach, Austria
I have lived in Saalbach, Austria the past 2 seasons. I really like what Saalbach has to offer. The night life is definately the main attraction of Saalbach for both young and the wealthy. I worked in a local bar in Saalbach and had many experiences of too many people coming to these clubs. Saalbach caters to many tastes in both the night life and its skiing.
The type of skiing that I prefer is more of the out-of-bounds(extreme) taste. I hate this word extreme so I use it with a cringe. The out of bounds area is quite accesible in Saalbach if this is your thing, but if you are unexperienced in travelling out of bounds I suggest that you stay close to the marked trail. The austrian police are very strict about doing out of bounds lines that are visible from the lifts. Some of these lines contain potential avalance terrain. If you are not this type of skier then you will love the runs that Saalbach has to offer. Saalbach is a lower level mountain, so you will see a lot of the sun and very nice beautiful warm days. There are 3 different towns that your lift ticket is good for: Saalbach, Hinterglem, and Leogang. If you are going to Saalbach as either a vacationer, or to live you will find plenty of terrain to keep your interest.
The night life in Saalbach is great! Whether you like a nice quiet bar, or the loud dance music that is the European trademark. The restaurants and hotels vary from economical to the highlife. The restaurants are also the same. This all depends on how much money you are willing to blow to have a good time. The high season in Saalbach ranges from the beginning to the end of February. Seeing Saalbach is a lower level region the snow does not stay as long as it would in the higher regions. That is why this year I am going to the bigger regions to satisfy why steep and deep tooth. So, if you are in this region and this sounds like a good time to you. visit the tourist office they will handle all of your needs. The home page for Saalbach is www. Saalbach.com. If you are needing help for reservations ask for Brendalyn, she is the nicest lady that will do anything for you. She even helped us get our luggage back the first year. Our airline sent it to Pakistan instead.
All in all I don’t regret any of the time that I spent in this Salzburg region resort. I like a lot of cliffs and chutes, so I am off to St. Anton this year. I will keep you posted on how on incredible St. Anton is. And when you are in Saalbach walk around and notice all of the beautiful Swedish women. You will not be dissapointed.
