I do not know what 2 Olympics Crans-Montana has been home to. Twice in the 90s the area bid on the Winter Games and twice they lost.

Crans-Montana is a resort that is completely out of step with modern ski resorts. Except for the major telecabines, the other installations are out of date. Only 2 high speed chairs exist in the resort and they are both on short runs. Unlike the Americans and the Canadians, there is no organization of the lift queues and as a result it is a miserable experience when the mountain is crowded. The lift attendants are relatively unhelpful and I have witnessed someone fall from 3 meters on the Piste Nationale chair and the attendant just laughed. Shameful behavior. Also, with the lines being so long and the skiable terrain reduced because of the lack of snow, there is still no effort on the part of the installation workers to fill the chairs on three- and four-person lifts, so often one finds a long line and numerous chairs on such lifts with only one person on a chair. Such a shame to have such a wonderful locale and have it run by people who don't treat it like a serious business. The locals in Crans are wonderful, but the arrogance of those who run the ski resort to not improve it is upsetting.

When the snow is good, which is becoming a rare event, the lack of experience - or concern - on the part of the piste preparers is shameful. One could plant wheat on the furrows that they create. After skiing in America and Canada, the pistes in Crans, except for Aminona, are amateurish.

I do not recommend Crans in winter, although in summer there is hardly a place to compare. Fabulous walks, generally lovely weather and breathtaking views.
