Pros: Town, learning terrain, moderately priced lodging
Cons: skiing too fragmented, boring advanced skiing, extremely poor shuttle system
The Bottom Line: Great for never-evers or once-in-lifetime family vacation for family that really doesnt ski. Good spring break dest. for student who want to party more than ski.

Ive been to Breckenridge 5 times over the last 18 yrs or so and have seen it change. Compared to many other destinations, it just comes up short.
The mountain is too fragmented and the skiing is generally quite bland and boring. The few spots that arent are very short and require lots of lift time for little skiing. Skiers at lower skill levels wont notice these drawbacks as more advanced skiers will.
Breckenridge has a great town, and some of the best (flattest) never-ever beginner slopes, but thats where its advantages stop. There is still quite a bit of moderately priced lodging available, and these several high points , in addition to close front-range proximity, are what accounts for it being the most-visited resort in the country.
Weekends are terribly crowded, many green slopes require riding the lift from the base, which is intolerably crowded much of the time. Resort management has done a good job of packing as many people on the hill as possible, and everyones experience is poorer for it.
Breckenridge was one of the first to really embrace snowboarding, and that still shows today, but not in a good way. The problem is the hordes of teenage snowboarder wanna-bees that congregate togetther and sit in the middle of trails, on green slopes, on blue slopes, and on black slopes. There are simply too many kids there who spend too much time on their arses blocking the trails, and the resort has NO intention of doing anything about it. Im not against snowboarding, Im against stupidity, which is just too rampant there.
The town shuttle is a joke. I have never seen a shuttle that terrible anywhere else. It cannot be figured out by a person visiting. It requires changing buses at a central transfer station, and many routes dont run when they need to. My family had to walk ~1/2 mile back to the condo with our stuff because the shuttle didnt run from the base to our condo area after 4:30 pm. And didnt run to town center after 8:00 How is one supposed to get around? The idiots responsible for that system need to be fired. If you want to know how a shuttle should work, go to Crested Butte or Telluride.
