BRECKENRIDGE
Breckenridge is made of four peaks; Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten. Which leads us to the obvious question, what ever happened to 1-6?
No matter, Breckridge is huge. The lifts rise 3398 vertical feet, but the resort is still a wider ride than it is tall. You wouldn't ski from one side to the other (unless that's your thing); better to find a favorite spot and stick to it. Most of the runs are long and flat, although Horseshoe Bowl is rumored to be up to 45 degrees in places (which is unlikely). All steep runs are bumped out, so prepare to witness lots of rubber-like stallions bouncing around at high speeds. It really gets the psyche flowing.
The best part of Breckenridge is the town. The night life is a riot, and the locals scene is straight out of the movie Hot Dog.
Downside: Because of the different peaks, chairlifts are laid out at the mercy of the mountain. This means long, slow traverses to get between chairs. Oh, and it's brutally cold.
Adventure potential:
The peaks tend to be flat down the front, and steep on the sides. The most adventurous skiing can be found by following the tree line into the dips and drainage's between the peaks. There are backcountry gates off the t-bar and peak nine that gives access to the entire ridge above Breckenridge. There's lots of easily accessible in-bounds hiking.
