My husband, brother, his girlfriend and I went to Breckenridge this winter. We stayed at the Village at Breckenridge for seven days.
Our trip was in a word "AWESOME". We had such a great time.
There is always something to do. Day or night you can find something that appeals to your taste in Breckenridge. The skiing is great. The slopes were great and there were a lot of intermediate and beginner areas. As well as plenty of more challenging slopes. But for those people who don't choose to ski there were tons of other activities.
During our stay we were able to visit the international ice sculptures as they were being made. And listed throughout the season were special things like that going on. Maggie Pond is available for ice skating. And there isn't a single kind of cuisine you could want and not find within walking distance. For those who like the night life there are tons of bars and pool houses.
I spent an entire day going from street to street looking through antique shops. There were PLENTY! In Breckenridge you can walk anywhere and be in the middle of hundreds of shops and resturants. And yet it keeps a small town feel. The river running through the town is beautiful with ice over portions. And the views are breath taking.
The Medical Center at the base of the mountain is wonderful. Unfortunately I was a visitor ....yep..that's why I ended up shopping and sight seeing a lot more than I normally would. The doctors were great and the staff was wonderful too. I got a concussion and they really took great care of me. To know that in the event that something happens you have good medical care right there is a comfort.
Bring the kids. There were plenty of child friendly activities. And the ski program was really good. I checked it out for future trips while I was there.
**Insider tips** Get your lift tickets outside of town. You will save a lot of money. If you are renting skis it will pay to shop around. We ended up finding a place half a block form the resort where we paid less than half of what we would have paid at most of the shops. And this is a big suggestion. Go to Arapahoe Basin while you are there. The lift tickets are dirt cheap ( you can get them at the grocery store or ask around ). It is great skiing and you can't beat the price. Another suggestion when you stop to get your discounted lift tickets, the town before Breckenridge has several grocery stores and there is a Walmart too. Stock up on some munchies. We did this and it made our lives easier, so we could snack on the slope and it also made our trip less expensive. Another thing to keep in mind. If you forget your gloves or your ski pants or whatever, that Walmart had some AWESOME prices on everything. I thought everything would be way marked up. NO! It was great. We ended up buying stuff there because the prices were so low.
