| nate78's Full Review: Steamboat |
My sister lived in Steamboat for a few years, so in 1998, my mother, cousin and I went out to see her just after Christmas. Once there, you never want to leave.
The airport outside of Steamboat, while conveniently close, is small and very crowded. It is reminiscent an antiquated port-of-call one may have visited while traveling to Iceland in 1946. The flight in is beautiful, giving you a stellar look at the Colorado sky and the Rocky Mountains.
Steamboat itself has many little shops and bistros, perfect for walking around after a day of skiing. There are city buses that will take you downtown from most if not all of the larger resorts and hotels.
Skiing can not be beat. I don't snowboard so I'm not sure about that, but their are many trails to choose from. If you are a novice, or the most advanced skier in your family, there is something for everyone. You will not be bored.
Most restaurants were downtown, but there were a few on the mountain itself. One in particular, requires you take the gondola up to the top of the mountain. Can't remember the name... but the food was out of this world.
Great for a family vacation, or a get-a-way for two. Basically, anyone who likes to ski, enjoy good food, and breath fresh air.
