Whether it's just you trying to get away, a romantic getaway for two, renewing your vows, getting married, family reunions, family vacation, you name it, this is the place to go.
I went to Gatlinburg the first time for my wedding. The wedding was beautiful, and so was the town. We have only been back once, but I yearn for it year after year.
This town has all the typical tourist traps, for those that like that sort of thing. Candy making factories are my favorite, although I do not buy, I just watch and look around.
Most of all, for those, like my husband and me, there are the isolated cabins. The cabins we stayed in are very comfortable and nice and leave nothing to be desired, while leaving you in the solitude of the Smokey Mountains.
For those that want to tour the town, I highly recommend taking the local tram (the traffic is terrible). For more information I would visit the Gatlinburg website. Which is the same as it's name.
My personal recommendations:
1) Rent a cabin.
2) Get as much info before hand so you don't miss out on anything!!!
3) After checking into your cabin, go to the local grocery. This is lots of fun for my family.
4) Go in the off season, either before it gets to cold, or after winter is over, although, I would love to see the mountains covered in snow, just have a 4 wheel drive.
5) Eat out at least once at a local restaurant while you are there. Take your pick or ask a local when you go touring or shopping at the store.
6) Go!!
And one last thing, this trip can be nice and cheap, if you plan right, or you can spend lots of money. It all depends on which one is the most fun for you.
