| adixiemom's Full Review: Ober Gatlinburg |
We have traveled to Gatlinburg twice in the past 4 years. Our first trip we stayed in a hotel in Pigeon Forge. Big mistake! This is not the place to be with children. Basically no matter which hotel you are staying in, the kids can see all the tourist trappings from the window or on the way to the destination of the day. If you don't want to hear, "Let's stop here," 25 times each day, go to Gatlinburg, rent a cabin and take hikes, go fishing, white water rafting, horseback riding and find many more fun family activities.
Don't forget the scenic tours, spend a day driving and sightseeing. You will find many crafters in this area. You can watch as they make their handmade items, learn how pottery is made, jewelry, and many more things the children will enjoy watching and learning.
You can't go without riding a ski lift. If you can't take the cold, ride in the daytime, but the lights are beautiful at night. Speaking of lights, we went one year at Thanksgiving and the Christmas lights in the Smokeys are fantastic.
The trip isn't complete without going to Dollywood. This is the cleanest theme park I have ever seen. It is smaller than the many of the other well known parks and seems to be much safer for families. Besides the rides there are so many activities for the family to do together. Plan 2 days for the park.
I would go each year if possible.
