I went to Gatlinburg on a vacation that I wasn't supposed to know where we were going. I was told to pack for cold weather conditions, and to be prepared to walk. Alot. And thats what we did. We left our Virginia homes at 5am, and got to Gatlinburg around 10am. It was a good surprise that the first plan of action was going ice skating and the like at Ober-Gatlinburg. I was hoping to go skiing, but the slopes were closed. However, we were allowed to go look at them, and I was impressed. Lots of slopes, and lifts. There wouldn't be too much waiting, which is the part I hate.
The rest of the building is what I thought could use a little more improvement. I liked the skating arena, it was a decent size, and had plenty of room for onlookers to see thier friends trying to keep up on the ice. I was not happy that I didn't find a dressing room though. I suppose that most people know what they are getting into, but speaking for myself, and my group of friends, we would have liked the chance to prepare ourselves for skating and the like a little better then having to groom in the middle of the bathrooms.
I would suggest Ober-Gatlinburg to anyone, but I would tell you to make sure you are definately ready to go when you do. Don't try and surprise your friends, especially if they take as much time preparing themselves as myself and all my friends...
