In a word, perfect! Alta is a skier's dream come true. Having lived and skied in Utah for eight years I can tell you that Alta is absolutely the best resort around, I will not ski elsewhere! However, a cautionary word to those who ski to sit by the fire in a plush lodge and be waited on, or to show off your new ski's, bright colorful jackets, and fancy hats: This is not the place for you to be! Though Alta's lodging and amenities are excellent, it is a SKIER'S resort.
Alta facilitates all of your skiing needs regardless of the level you ski at. Expert, advanced, and intermediate runs can be reached from nearly all lifts. Some of the expert and advanced runs require you to traverse the mountain, but all efforts are greatly rewarded with lots of steep and deep! Beginners should especially look into skiing at Alta for several reasons. One, Alta has multiple toe ropes and long gentle slopes tailor made for beginners. Secondly, a full day of skiing at Alta is considerably cheaper than anywhere else (if you decide you hate skiing then you have minimized your expense). Lastly, Alta hires qualified instructors who can either give you a personal lesson or group lesson at a very reasonable price.
Other huge bonuses to skiing at Alta is the evident lack of snowboarders and high speed quads! I have nothing against snowboarders as people, but the vast majority of boarders ruin mogouls, and other desireable features of the snow. Alta has a strict no boarding policy which keeps the mountain in great shape! As for the quads.....they suck! Yes they reduce lines, but it doesn't take much figuring to realize that it puts more people on the mountain at the same time. More people on the mountain at once equates to more accidents and less room to ski. Yes the lines can get long at Alta, but long lines are usually limited to Saturday.
Overall, the best resort in Utah!
