Want to visit one of the most beautiful places in existence? Take a trip to Stowe, Vermont. Sure its one heck of a drive from New York City (A good six hours) but let me tell you it is well worth it! Stowe is about as far North in Vermont as you can get.
My best friend and I had a joint birthday party (she turned 21 and I turned 22) and we decided that we wanted to do something special. So we rented a Peter Pan bus (a large greyhound-esque charter bus) and brought 15 of our friends to Vermont; Stowe, Vermont to be more specific
Stowe is a quaint little town, that is most beautiful in the fall, particularly in October when you can see the multi-colored leaves on all of the Vermont trees. All the red, yellow, orange, and green leaves together are a gorgeous combination.
One of the most fun things that you can do in the summer/ fall in Stowe (and pretty much anywhere in Vermont) is to take a ride on an Alpine Slide @ Spruce Peak. For those who are unfamiliar with the Alpine slide and its wonderfulness I'll fill you all in. You get on a Ski lift, which takes you up to the top of a mountain. Once at the top there you take a sled and put it on a concrete track which you then slide down the mountain on all the time controlling the speed at which you go by either pushing a lever forward to go faster and backward to break. I absolutely loved the Alpine slide it was great fun!
When we went we stayed a super place called the Andersen lodge. You can either rent a room there for the night or rent out an entire condominium which is what we ended up doing. The lodge itself is peaceful and beautiful. It is run by a sweet Austrian couple and a daschund named Mooksie who are all eager to please.
The condo that we stayed in had three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a hot tub, a kitchen, two TVs and two VCRs, two pull out couches, and a balcony. It was quite nice indeed. There was a building with a pool and Jacuzzi across directly across from us that we had a personal key to.
There are plenty of choices of restaurants to choose from ranging from A pizzeria to French Cuisine. You can pretty much get anything you need. One excellent restaurant that we sampled was called THE SHED. I can personally recommend the Eggs Benedict, the orange soda, and the Hot Apple Cider. WOW!! They really know what their doing over there.
Stowe is a fantastic place to take scenic walks in. And you really should take advantage of its beauty as far as that is concerned. Take an hour to just walk in the woods with yourself or take a friend. Experience the beauty that Stowe has to offer.
I highly recommend Stowe, especially to families and couples. If you want to go I suggest visiting in the fall before ski season starts and when the Alpine Slides are still open. so Between Sept. and October 13 is best.
