Pros: wide variety of trails, no lift lines, good instructors, family oriented
Cons: in the middle of nowhere, trails are too short, and they don't open enough slopes
The Bottom Line: I would recommend Timberline Ski Resort everyone from the beginning youngster to the thrill seeking college student, to the more elderly who just enjoy skiing, Timberline is a great resort.

Timberline Ski Resort in Davis, West Virginia, is, compared to many other ski resorts in the area, very good. It is larger, has more trails, and more challenging trails than most other resorts in the Virginia/West Virginia/North Carolina/Maryland, and even Pennsylvania.
PROS
1. Wide variety of trails. Timberline has every different type of trails, from the elementary trail, Salamander, to the double black diamond, The Drop. Salamander is the perfect trail to learn to ski on, and The Drop is the perfect trail to challenge yourself on. Its nothing like out west, but what can you expect in West Virginia?
2. No lift lines. The only times you have to wait more than 30 seconds is on weekends, and even then, usually not more than a few minutes.
3. Good instructors. I have taken a good number of private lessons here, and I have learned something new every time. I highly recommend taking a lesson with these fine trainers.
4. Family oriented. Timberline has many different ski schools, for all ages, and at a fairly cheap price. They will even teach your child how to ski while you cruise the black diamonds this resort has to offer.
CONS
1. Way out in the middle of nowhere. This resort is a long ways from the nearest town,(Davis)and it takes many mountain roads to get here, don't go if you get car sick easily.
2. Trails are too short. Some of the runs are only a minute long or so, which is way too short. Then you have to wait 10 minutes on the lift to get back to the top, because of the incredibly slow lifts.
3. They don't open enough trails. They wait until they get 2 feet of fresh snow before they open any of the black diamonds. If you don't come at the right time, and your an advanced skier, you could be disappointed. Check those snow reports!
Overall, Timberline is a fairly good ski resort, it is definitely better than most resorts in the area, but it doesn't compare to out west. I recommend it if you want to learn how to ski, or are not too advanced. Happy skiing!
