| Spotsy's Full Review: Beauty and the Beast |
What makes a trip to New York City complete when traveling with children?
A trip to a Broadway show. Not any show, a Disney production.
My choice was Beauty and the Beast. This was a fantastic production.
Not only did it keep my children entertained for 2 hours but my husband.
If you are on a budget a Broadway show is probably not for you.
The cost varies according to where you are seated. My seats were in the rear mezzanine row D. The cost was $60.00 per seat. If you go to this theatre (Lunt Fontanne) make sure you know where you are seated. There are a few that would be considered bad. There is a section (probably the first 3 rows right behind the aisle separating the front mezzanine from the rear mezzanine. Especially the seats near each wall right behind the aisle. People were walking in front of them even during the play. Other than those seats I don't believe there were any bad seats in the theatre. Unless your eye sight is less than ideal you probably won't need binoculars.
Just a few hints to make the play more enjoyable.
1. Eat before going. We went to the matinee (3:00) Kids were a little hungry even though we had lunch. The snacks (candy, etc.) were expensive and so were drinks
2. Half way through the play is a 15 min. break. Womens bathroom is real crowded. Head for the restroom on the bottom floor. Or leave a few minutes before the break. I spent the whole break waiting in line and barely made it back before the play started again.
3. Make sure you are well rested before you see any play. It is dark and cool inside the theatres. A perfect environment to take a nap. Especially if you have jet lag or have been running around all day in that hot, humid weather. Considering the cost of the tickets it could be a expensive nap for most people.
4. Wear whatever you are comfortable in. New Yorkers wear anything and don't care. At the matinee, most people were dressed casual. Casual slacks and summer dresses were worn by most. We had shorts on and I didn't feel out of place. There were a few in Sequins though.
5. Parking is near impossible as most know in Manhattan. The theatre is located on 46th street. Right in the middle of Times Square. A very busy spot. My recommendation is to walk or take public transportation. If you are taking a taxi. Make sure you take it early enough. I took one from Central Park & 5th Ave. It took 1/2 hour to get over to the theatre.
It should have been 5 min. The traffic is real bad and take that into consideration when traveling.
So, enjoy the play and New York. There is so much to see and do there.
