| mgabriele's Full Review: Beauty and the Beast |
We saw Beauty and the Beast at the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia over the Christmas holidays. This was my daughter's first experience with Broadway theatre and she loved it.
I think we all know the story of Beauty and the Beast from our childhood days. Disney truly brings the story to life. From the beginning of the play, you are caught up in the feelings of the characters in the play.
But what really makes this show spectacular are the costumes and the special effects. Every costume is exquisitely made and you see the characters as the objects they are supposed to be. And the special effects! I was in aware of them. From the teapot with the steam coming out of the handle to the scene where the Beast is turned back into the Prince (which is truly mind boggling - you will sit there and say, how do they do that), you can see the time and effort that were put into the special effects.
There are some parts of the show that may frighten the youngsters. When Belle arrives at the Castle and everything turns dark and forboding, can be frightening to a child. I held my daughter's hand very tightly during that scene, but most of the show is a magical treat for any child. I heartily recommend this show for families.
