Powerful but flat

Pros:Jon Peters, the elderly couple

Cons:Lea Thompson

Went to see the touring show in Houston last night. Jon Peters was superb as the Emcee -- by far the highlight of the evening. The shuffling in and out of the orchestra between songs was innovative and well done. The dance scene ("Married") at the end of Act I was touching and well staged. The old couple stole every scene they were in and deserved kudos.

Lea Thompson, as Sally, sang well for a dancer/actress; however her voice, though powerful and on key, lacked subtlety and panache. Any star-quality singer with range and emotion will bring the house down with either "Maybe This Time" or "Cabaret." In neither case was Jones Hall in danger.

An enjoyable evening, but not nearly what it could have been.
