| Angellcatt's Full Review: I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change |
"I love you, your perfect, now change" is touted as "Seinfeld set to music" and as a musical revue about love and romance in the '90s. It sounds more promising than it turns out to be.
It is a four person show (six if you count the pianist and violinist), comprised of two men and two women. Of the four, Kelly Ann Clark and Jordan Leeds both had stunning voices. It would have been pleasant to listen to them sing anything. The voices of the other two actors, Kevin Parseau and Cheryl Stern, were less appealling. Hers was nasal and whiney, his non-descript.
The writing was atrocious. The funniest part of the show was the announcement at the beginning requesting audience members to turn off their cellphones and beepers. Of all of the numbers, a few were amusing. The opening and closing numbers, both dealing with the biblical theme of Adam and Eve, were entertaining. The number right before intermission about a couple getting cold feet at there wedding was too. A fourth number about waiting (as in for the ladiesroom, a shopping wife, or a football game to be over) actually made me laugh out loud. Otherwise, I was tempted to walk out a few times. One monologue about a woman whose husband dumped her for someone older and she was left to raise children she disliked and so she came to pour her heart out to a video dating service camera was totally out of place. First of all it was a monologue in the midst of a musical revue. Secondly it was depressing to the point of being in poor taste, considering the light hearted and upbeat tone of the rest of the show.
You get the idea. Though it had some redeeming qualities, my advice to to wait for Clark and Leeds to appear in something more worth seeing and skip "I love you, your perfect, now change."
