Interested in an upbeat show that you can sit back, enjoy and laugh without expending much energy, go see "I Love you, You're Perfect, Now Change".
While on an recent NYC trip my wife and I came across this play while debating whether or not to stay and catch a second show. We stayed and we caught and we both had a marvelous time. The show starts off with a humorous view of relationships showing a light hearted view at many of the minor glitches that befall any relationship.
Starting from the first date, and ending with starting anew towards the end of life the skits run the full gambit of situations that many couples find themselves in.
The skits also run the full gambit in their assertions about relationships being both coy, satirical, witty, hopeful, frustrated and jaded. The entire theater at times was filled with rowdy good willed laughter during the lighter skits, and was as silence as a midnight graveyard during the more serious moments.
The theater itself is an attractive building located on 43rd and 9th (in the heart of Hell's Kitchen). The theater is well tiered so even those towards the rear of the viewing area will be able to enjoy a full view of the players and the choreography.
The play itself has been described as "Seinfeld set to Music", however, I found the acts more akin to an early 70's variety show myself. While some of the skits are predictable, they humorously portray many of the day to day events that couples may face, awkwardness on first dates, chick flicks vs. guy flicks, travelling with the family, and the fears of starting over.
This is a highly enjoyable evening of fast paced entertainment, the price tag is right ($30 to $50), and you'll find you spent a most enjoyable evening when you see "I Love you, You're Perfect, Now Change".
Again, this play is not a serious play, nor is it a play in the traditional sense, it is a series of five to ten minute skits that is quickly paced and vastly entertaining. If you go in with that frame of reference it will make for a most enjoyable and entertaining evening.
