| Schankel1's Full Review: I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change |
As a Valentine Day gift, I took my wife to see I Love You, You're Perfect Now Change. I thought it would be a cute little musical that touched on some areas of relationships, but little did I know that it would almost completely mirror every stage of our relationship.
The day we went to the show, it was three of the regular cast members and one understudy. Even with the addition of the understudy, the cast dazzled us. Their voices, sense of comic timing, and acting abilities were amazing. These four individuals transformed from young, gawky kids in the early dating stages to nagging parents to spouses grieving the deaths of their loved ones. All of these transformations were believable and done to perfection.
The musical selections were also well-done. Though not your typical New York musical soundtrack, I Love You... left me humming some of the catchier tunes for days. The lyrics were very relative to the action and left most of the couples (who are realistic about their own relationships) laughing out loud, or at least smiling from ear to ear.
Very little scenery or props are used, however, what props the actors did have were brought in in some very unique and imaginative ways. Especially memorable was the use of four rolling chairs during a car scene.
Both my wife and I enjoyed this comical revue of relationships. I think this is a must for any couple that needs a little tension release and reality check of what they consider to be major relationship issues.
