Stomp, what the heck is it? I saw it, and I still don't know exactly how to define and/or describe it! Just go and enjoy an afternoon, or evening of entertainment. You might just go for nostalgia's sake; the theater used to be the Filmore East.
You enter the theater, not knowing what to expect. There is chattering and whispering around you, when someone comes out onto the stage with a broom. The theater starts to quiet, with some whispers questioning what is going on. Slowly the lone sweeper begins to notice the sound his broom is making, and playing with it. Another sweeper joins him, and slowly the stage and room fill with music and energy flowing through the entire house!
The premise of the show is that you can find music anywhere. We are treated to music from garbage cans, plungers, cigarette lighters, newspapers, and from many other unexpected, and outlandish places. The performers use anything at hand, including their hands and bodies to make music, ending the show by having the audience join in.
This is an energy packed show filled with excitement and joy. The performers obviously are having a great time giving the performance, and their joy is contagious.
Everyone in the family (except maybe Scrooge!) will enjoy this show regardless of age. It is fun, imaginative and creative. Every performance is slightly different, depending on the cast. It is apparently an enervating performance, so the cast rotates performances.
You may have caught bits of it on television; I know have, but seeing it in person is a completely different experience. The air seems to simply sizzle in the theater. A great time will be had by all, and it is far better in person than on PBS, or video!
