| rachelhansen's Full Review: Tony N' Tina's Wedding |
We had a girls' weekend out in Vancouver, BC and went to Tony n' Tina's Wedding. One of us girls had seen it before several years ago in a different location and just raved about it. We were all so excited to experience this well-known show. When arriving at the church where the ceremony was held I felt let down already. There was no music for any part of the ceremony, although there was a "boom box" near the nun. The program was poorly copied. The actors "lines" were not funny and their acting was mediocre, at best. The priest's accent sounded more like Australian than Irish. People snickered only because they knew it was supposed to be funny. It wasn't! The "plot" was weak and not very interesting. We hoped that things would pick up at the reception, but they didn't, at all. First we were given directions to the reception, which was at a location over a mile away! For those of us that chose to wear heels and for those of us that are very pregnant, we were not impressed. At least it wasn't raining! Once we got there, we were crammed around tables too close together. It was a real workout to get up from the table for any reason. We waited too long for food. Finally an antipasto plate was delivered and I made myself a panini. We watched the very cheesy antics of the actors while we waited too long, once again, for the main course. The singing duo was awful and the MC was far from funny or entertaining. Everyone kept looking at eachother, asking if this was for real? Where is the humor, the entertainment? Was it scripted or all improvisation? Either way, it was appalling. We were baffled. Even though they were awful the actors seemed to be having a good time. At least someone was! We were finally called by tables to line up for food and were manhandled by the rude waitress girl to scoot over and squish in. The food was disgusting. The pasta was bland and cold. The breaded cutlets were mysterious. I heard someone say it was veal and another thought it could be chicken. Nobody was sure. I only ate because I was so hungry. Only water was included with the meal. Anything else like soda or liquor was several dollars a glass. My friend, who had a crantini doubted there was alcohol in it at all. A couple of us in our group decided to leave after we ate. We really could not take any more. From those that chose to suffer until the bitter end, we heard that it got even worse. Fights broke out left and right. The nun stripped off her clothes. The priest passed out with his head in the crotch of one of the girls in our group and he would not get up. This happened after he told horrible jokes and tried to sell someone drugs. Nobody was sure if his drug dealing was part of the "plot" or not. I'm so glad I had left early. This was a total rip off! Tickets were $60 a piece and I felt completely robbed. People should be paid to be put through such torture. So you know, I am not a whiner or normally give such negative reviews, only if it is warranted. This show was by far the WORST I have ever seen. It was embarrassing. I understand that others have seen this production in other venues and were very impressed. I believe that it CAN be a great show. Unfortunately, I did not luck out by seeing one of those shows. I feel so gypped. Go to this show at your own risk!!!
