| bronto's Full Review: Tony N' Tina's Wedding |
Okay, to the six of us dropped $474 to see this turkey and we still walked away hungry. What I'm wondering is how anything this bad can last thirteen days on stage, let alone thirteen years. We saw the San Francisco staging on December 22, 2001 at the Cable Car Theatre on Mason, right off Union Square. To say we were disappointed can't begin to describe the look of hopeless frustration that washed over the face of my mother-in-law and suffused my being as we sat there dumbstruck, having been to many actual weddings that were more interesting and didn't cost nearly as much. The plot, if there's supposed to be one, didn't make an appearance, while the cast mostly phoned in theirs. What a mediocre and uninspired waste of time. And the food...oh, my...what were they charging that $75 per person for, anyway? I've had better buffets on an Army field chow line than we were served last night. For half of what we spent, we could have had six top-quality meals at Postrio, just around the corner, inclusive of wine and tip. And we wouldn't have had to endure the bad acting, stupid jokes, false hipness of the un-hip cast, or the loud music. I say, instead of blowing your hard-earned cash on this bloated farce, buy a good bottle of wine and rent "The Wedding Singer," retiring to the comfort of your living room instead of making the trek to hang out with Tony and Tina. At least you'll be able to get a buzz on without having to drive, plus you can pocket $50 to spend more prudently. Run, don't walk, the other direction should anyone EVER suggest you see this show with them. Peeeeyewww!
