| PMock0552's Full Review: Tony N' Tina's Wedding |
When we first visited New York City this was one play that caught my eye. After a couple of visits my husband and I decided it was time to attend our first off broadway play. Of course I twisted his arm hard enough and he gladly chose Tony and Tinas Wedding.
We had attended a few broadway plays and I sorta knew how to dress and what to do and not to do. When we walked up to this Church I noticed their were not many people in pants and here I was with black jeans hiding my face in shame. My husband said Oh grin and bear it there will be enough there that no one will notice. As we enter the church the usher greeted us just like he would at a real wedding I took his arm as he whispered in my ear What happened Sweetheart did you lose your luggage at the airport? At this point I knew I was in for a treat.
This is truly a wedding of tears not of sadness but of laughter. We were seated right behind the grooms father and his Sleazy girlfriend. You are made to feel as though you are friends or family sharing this special day with Tony and Tina. I have vivid memories of the bridesmaid who is pregnant and chewing gum to the cousin of the bride who is a nun. Cousin Darlene leads you in a congregational hymn. The grooms ex boyfriend walks in and you think oh no here is trouble. Let's not forget their wedding vows when Tony's dad interrupts and says Who Loves you Tony and he shouts back, "You do Dad." I never laughed so much at a wedding, my serious husband had to poke me several times as I was getting a bit loud. After the wedding nothing thrilled me but to kiss the groom and his Dad and to be thanked for sharing this special day with them.
The reception is a wild time you share with them in a dinner which is part of the ticket cost, wedding cake and all. For excitement there, where do I begin is it when the groom and bride have a drag out fight? Is it when the Grooms sleazy girlfriend gets jealous of someone flirting with her man? In return lets not forget the little bar dance where you think oh my goodness she will bear all if not careful. One of my most vivid memories is when this little man comes to sit by me and he is part of the catering service (little did I know he was also part of the show) he is dressed in catering clothes and all. He sits at my table and pulls out this plastic spider with a air bulb attached and when you pump it up the spider jumps. I said cute I know what your doing why not place it on the table behind us. Well when he does a lady starts to hyperventilate her husband had to take her out, of course here I am laughing until I find out it is not part of the show.
This wedding will bring lots of tears of laughter. There is never a dull moment, this is a great play to go see with a group of friends (never with a serious husband). As far as how well the cast did this was one play where you ad lib and anything would go over, in fact I started thinking how much time goes into rehearsing? You will enjoy this one!!!
