| Slickman's Full Review: The Music Man |
The Music Man doesn't at all fail to bring us back the time told classic of Harold Prince and his coning ways. The show is basically a carbon copy of both the movie and the original stage production. The only advantage is, is that you get to see it live. I was surprised to the cast that they lined up for this show. Rebecca Luker plays Mr.Princes love interest. I would also shocked to see that Vinnie from the classic show Doogie Howzer plays a supporting role in The Music Man.
Yet aside from the cast The Music Man also has some stunning choreography. The dancing possibly the best thing about this show. Now that is something that I would surprised at! When I think of The Music Man "dancing" is defiantly not the first thing that pops into my head. But it has. The best number of them all being "Seventy-six trombones" with actors of all ages performing dazzling acrobats and decaying to their hearts content.
Another great aspect of The Music Man is of coarse, the music. The music is superbly fits the show. Not to mention rings a bell to you. Even if you have never seen this movie you will have heard it's music. When you hear it you will think "Gee, that sounds so familiar!" That's because the music is so classic that it has played to the ears of most likely all of its viewers. Songs like "Seventy-six Trombones" and "You Got Trouble" or "Til' There Was You" not to mention "The Wells Fargo Wagon."
The Music Man is also wonderfully crafted. The set is so elaborate and put together to well that is makes your eyes jolt. Now don't get my wrong it's no Lion King, but it certainly does justice to the time period as well as the plot of the show. Thing like a moving walk way and a moving set behind it to make scenes like the one where Harold is coming on to Rebecca Lukers Character seam as though they are actually walking down a street.
This is also a great show for kids. The greatest aspect of this show is the fact that it is so light hearted. There is no real drama in this. Just accented movements and uptempo tunes. There is never a minute when your in a bad mood, the show is never down. It's childlike nature enhances it's effect to the greatest level. It will make you remember you childhood, and as for children it will make them embrace their own.
