This is my second epinion written while sitting at the Chicago O'Hare airport, awaiting my flight. I don't own a laptop, so instead, I punch this in on my Handspring Visor (I wrote about this in a previous epinion).
Booking the rental
My wife and I had planned our trip to Reno to visit family, but we almost forgot to rent a car! The night before our departure, we went online to research rental rates. I always rent at least a midsize, because, I don't like small cars. We checked a few web sites, including expedia.com, and Dollar was the cheapest.
I went to the dollar website, www.dollar.com, to look at the rates. It was true, $104 for a midsize car, unlimited mileage, for one week. That's quite a deal, since the nearest competitor was about $120 a week.
Booking online
I'm a little old-fashioned. I enjoy the internet, but I'm still skeptical about using my credit card online. (I know it is supposed to be, safe, but I worry.) I will frequently do research online, then book by phone.
Because of my insecurities about credit card use, I was very pleased to book through Dollar. They asked for my name, phone number, and email address, and I was emailed my confirmation. That was it!
Check-in
We arrived on time to Reno. After getting our baggage, we went to the Dollar counter. There were two young people working the counter. They found our reservation, and after a few calls on the two-way radio, they informed us that they had no midsize cars available.
Instead we would have to suffer with a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for the same price. The Jeep was in great shape, few exterior dents, clean interior, only 8000 miles, and much more fun to drive!
That has to be the best deal I have ever gotten on a rental car! I will have to try them again in the future!
Thus ends my second epinion written on my PDA while waiting at the airport. Thanks for reading, my flight is going to leave soon (I hope).
