I used Enterprise service about a year ago (11/99). My insurance company recommended them while my car was being repaired. Unfortunately a deer attacked my car (quite literally, it could have been a FOX special).
The employees at Enterprise were very friendly and worked out all of the details of my service for me with my insurance provider. They offered to come pick me up from the garage, which I declined (because I am not much for making small-talk and I had another option for getting to the rental center). However, I thought that it was a nice service to offer and it could get some people out of a jam.
My insurance provider designates that they will only provide a rental car comparable to my car (which is a small Geo Storm). So I thought I was going to end up with the equivalent of a Hot-wheels sized Yugo or something. Enterprise offered several comparable cars in my class and I picked the one that sounded the nicest.
When I arrived at the counter to pick-up my car. The employee informed me that they did not have the car in their lot that I had requested. I was suddenly reminded of the Seinfield episode where he was talking to a car rental place about the difference between taking a reservation and fulfilling a reservation.
My first thought was, "Here I go! They tell me I can have one thing on the phone, but another when I get there." However, the girl behind the desk informed me that because they did not have my car they would upgrade me one class for free. Come to find out they didn't have any car in that class either and upgraded me another class for free.
I ended up with a large, red Dodge Durango truck. It was an awesome vehicle! I had no problems with it for the 3-4 days that I had it (I can't remember exactly). It was definitely an upgrade from my low-riding compact Geo!
When I had to turn the truck back in, I just left it at the garage where my car was being worked on. I drove my little, blue Geo Storm into the sunset and Enterprise came and picked up their truck later.
The only down-side to my whole experience was that I had to wait for awhile (45 minutes to an hour) while they were processing my file because of the car discrepancies. But I was still happy after the major upgrades.
Hope this helps. Drive safe and watch for deer. And remember that this is just one man's opinion.
