Enterprise Rent-A-Car, "ERAC", is a great company and a HUGE moneymaker in their business. They are privately owned so they do not have to disclose their financial statements regarding their huge profits as would a public corporation. BUT... that is not my warning.
Employee's of ERAC, recent college graduates mostly, are promoted based on their ability to sell the CDW... the collision damage waiver. A percentage of 50% of better is expected. They have their office slang for this insurance... "DUB" is the common name. These employee's know you and the odds before you walk in if you have a reservation. If you are going through an insurance claim... they know you may be in the car for a while and you will be a tough sell at $12/day. However if you have a retail reservation and you are on vacation... you are easy pickings. The funny part about this is that insurance deals are the bread and butter of ERAC because of the consistent rentals and longer term deals... but the employee's dislike them because it is harder to sell their insurance and lowers their selling percentage.. therefore decreasing the chances of their promotion.
Bottom line... negotiate everything. If you take the CDW, ask to bring the car back on EMPTY, or ask for a nicer car. Be honest with the employee... "If I buy your damage waiver... can I upgrade to the Cadillac for the same price?" The employee will probably do the switch knowing that he has a damage waiver sale locked up! Hey, everything is negotiable!
Lastly, if your own auto insurance covers rental cars... and they probably do with your same comprehensive and collision deductibles... AND you do not want their damage waiver... expect to hear every sales line in the book. VERY frustrating and time consuming but one "No" will not work with these bloodhounds.
I respect their game and they rent quality cars, just do not get pushed into buying damage waiver if you do not want it!
