Never say never or you will miss out on one of the best rides at Disney Studios.
This tower haunted me because every time I walked past it I was reminded that I was too chicken to ride it.
Everyone has an opinion on rides at Disney but I have never heard anyone ever say anything negative about this particular ride which only increased my curiosity.
I was curious. How could a ride that just goes down can be that exciting anyway? I have ridden an elevator a million times at work and it is more frustrating than fun.
We waited in line full of terror. My mom had talked me into it, and I made the kids go. I guess we had the look of first timers because everyone in line was comforting us insisting that it was not that bad. The whole group of people waiting near us had been on the ride several times that day.
While we were in line we were trying to rationalize among ourselves if this ride really drops or if it is an illusion. No one would say.
The ride
When the elevator opens you will be seated. The rest of the ride is a blur. Something about 13 stories and a near-death experience. It is the kind of experience that by nature requires you to scream at the top of your lungs. The more experienced riders had their hands in the air like they would on a roller coaster. Up and down it goes, where it stops nobody knows. The concept is simple. You ascend in the elevator as expected, and you fall as expected. You know you will not die�€�but you are afraid for your life and so starts the process of screaming.
Setting
The building looks like an old scary hotel which towers so high that it can be seen from the parking lot. The cast members are dressed up like bell hops, exactly like you would see at a hotel. The theme inside favors the Twilight Zone.
Children
Children must be 40 inches to ride though I am not sure they would enjoy this. We decided not to traumatize our youngest. My 6-year-old wanted to ride initially but really regretted it. She said that she could not breath and of course did not like that feeling. My 13-year-old son is afraid of heights and generally does not enjoy rides. I was not surprised that he did not like it. There are also times when it is pitch black which can be frightening for children.
Health restrictions
Like most rides, all the restrictions are posted and everything is listed. Heed the warning though if you have heart or back issues�€�in my opinion.
Waiting/Line
Like all rides at Disney, the lines vary by season and time of day. This attraction does have a fast pass which will give you a good opportunity to enjoy this ride without the wait. I would plan this for daylight hours.
Repeat Rides
I wish we had time to try this ride again. (I will just use this excuse, it is not because it was too scary) It would have been interesting to try this ride again. The elevator falls randomly so your experience will be unique which gives this ride more originality than other rides.
Overall
I think this ride is comparable to a roller coaster in terms of thrill factor. One time was enough for me though. I probably will not go on the ride again without being coaxed and I know for a fact that no amount of bribing will get my kids to go on the ride again.
(This ride can be experienced at Disney Studios. There is no additional charge for this ride once admission to Disney has been paid.)
