| blanders76's Full Review: Walt Disney World Epcot - Germany |
On my most recent trip to Disney World (my honeymoon, actually), we decided to try a restaurant that we hadn't visited before, so we made priority seating arrangements for dinner in the German pavilion at Epcot. We were a little nervous about it, since neither my new husband, nor myself, really enjoy eating sausage and other heavy meat dishes. But we figured we'd give it a try.
The restaurant is designed to look like an old-world, outdoor German courtyard. There's a stage in the front where an oompah band plays regular shows throughout the dinner hours. The band was very entertaining and really involves the crowd in the show. Great fun! We were there as a couple, but many families were there and everyone seemed to be having a terrific time.
The food is set up as an all-you-care-to-eat buffet, which we chose to eat in three courses. First, of course, we ordered a pint of beer (great for joining in with the singing during the show).
We ate a cold salad first, which included standard lettuce and also some great potato salad, cheeses and more.
Then we moved on to the hot food, which included many types of sausages. I tried one that was similar to a frankfurter and it was quite good - especially with the excellent mustards they provide. There was also a pot-roast-like beef dish and some chicken, both of which were very good. I especially liked the spatzle (German dough-like pasta mini dumplings) with gravy. Also, be sure you have some pretzel bread - it was excellent, especially, again, with the mustards provided.
Then we had dessert. We each filled our plates with a selection of desserts. The apple strudel with vanilla sauce was very good.
And, just because we couldn't help ourselves, we each took one more piece of pretzel bread for the road. It was so good!
The rest of the German pavilion is made up of shops which are fun to browse through, but I usually don't buy anything. The toy shop has some beautiful things, especially some great German dolls. There's also a great bakery that offers special treats throughout the day.
