| mcommini's Full Review: Walt Disney World Epcot - Germany |
This area of Epcot is cleverly done. The miniature train and village around it are typical of Disney "magic". If there wasn't always a crowd present, the little pathway through this model would be a romantic spot. My husband and I watched the little train chug through tunnels and around the little imaginary town, before heading to the rest of "Germany".
My favorite part here, as in France, is the gift shop. One section has Hummel statues, in various stages of firing, for viewing and purchasing. If you walk past these, you'll see an array of bright, warm Christmas decorations in the next room.
I was very surprised when I saw one bin full of little tin PICKLES! I pointed them out to Dan, and we had a little chuckle over that, wondering what their significance was. A friendly clerk, of German descent, of course, came up to us and explained the story behind the pickles.
Each year, the German family decorates their Christmas tree. An adult hides the "Christmas pickle" somewhere on the tree. On Christmas morning, the child who finds it receives an extra present. I thought this was a really nice tradition and was grateful to the thoughtful salesperson for taking time to explain it. As we left this little store, and ended our short trip to "Germany", we passed a small Christmas tree by the door, loaded with the pickles! Below it was a note wishing all visitors well. How nice!
