Pros: rarely has waits, hints of a good show, wide variety of musical styles
Cons: no good seats, Iago horrid and grating, odd light effects
The Bottom Line: The Enchanted Tiki Room is pleasant, but is most notable for giving glimpses into what once was rather than providing a good, cohesive show now.

| quasar's Full Review: The Enchanted Tiki Room |
I never saw the original incarnation of the Enchanted Tiki Room. By the time I made my first visit to Disney World, the place was already "under new management" and an odd hybrid show attempting to mix the traditional with the new and hip. While I can see the seeds of a great show peeping out from underneath, the presentation as it stands just doesn't work for me.
Perhaps the best part of the current show is the small preshow located along the outside of the building along the queing area. The agents of the two birds who bought the Tiki club inside are fighting it out about which client is the bigger star. It's really cute, although it does start getting a little old after the third or fourth viewing.
The show itself features vaguely circular seating. Most of the show is overhead and there's no really good seat to see everything. The show starts with birds hanging from ceiling singing "Tiki, Tiki Room" just as the original show started, but they're interrupted by the new owners of the club, Iago from Aladdin and Zazu from The Lion King. Iago has no use for Tiki music and wants rap, hip hop and rock instead. He insults the resident Tiki gods and chaos ensues as the gods take their revenge and restore order to the room.
The show is focused on music and spans a lot of different genres (there's even a doowop number). Some of the music is great while some is totally not my thing. I love the birds and the original song and think 10 minutes of the original song with a few bad puns and lame jokes would have been a terrific interlude. The additions of the very grating Iago and the almost scary main Tiki god in the center of the room don't work for me, but the rest of the colorful, bright Tiki gods surrounding the room are visually appealing. There are also some light effects that don't seem to fit the show well and exist solely to spice things up.
The Enchanted Tiki Room runs semi-continuously and rarely has long waits. You can usually get into next show even when the rest of the park is crowded, so this is a good option when you're sick of standing in line or fighting throngs of people. I think I would be happier with the original incarnation of the show, but there's no way to know that for sure at this point. It would be nice if they could devise some type of seating arrangement that provided better views of the birds overhead, but I can't really think of a better configuration off the top of my head. The Enchanted Tiki Room is pleasant, but is most notable for giving glimpses into what once was rather than providing a good, cohesive show now.
