Introduction
I was very excited to see the enchanted Tiki room. I had bought the Disney CD Collection, and the Tiki room song was one of my favorites. I knew almost the entire thing by heart, and was ready to see it paired with animatronics. Unfortunately, when I arrived, they had just changed the Enchanted Tiki room into something not quite so enchanted.
The Line
There is usually hardly a line to go to the Tiki room. You certainly do not have to plan ahead to get a seat. Go when other things have long lines and you want to sit down for a minute. Expect to wait about 10 to 15 minutes as it takes a while to run each show.
The Tiki Room
The Tiki room is a collage of colors and carribean themes. The audience sits in a circle around where most of the action takes place (in the center). There are lots of other birds hanging all around, and many of those move and/or talk during the show. It is all bench seating, but it usually doesn't fill so much that you are uncomfortable (unless of course that really unpleasant person decides to sit next to you!).
The Show
The Show starts off like the old Tiki room. Funny birds with funny voices start their banter and sing the main theme song. The birds are animatronic (or robots for short), and their mouths and/or other parts move slightly to give the impression that they are really talking.
Unfortunately, we don't even get to hear one full refrain of the much loved song when the new birds (Zazu from the Lion King, and Iago from Aladin) burst in and change the show. The show that goes on from there is cute, and little kids will like the addition of more familiar characters, but it is a big disappointment for those familiar with the original room. I have to say that the new edition is not nearly as funny as the classic that now only lives on my CD.
Age Groups
Due to the new show, only small kids will really love this. Adults will marvel a bit and won't get bored, but it's nothing to remember. Children in the middle may think it's boring and dumb, and they would partly be right. You really have to love the Disney characters presented or really love cute birds signing "Hot, hot, hot" to fall in love with this show.
Conclusion
I hope Disney brings back the old Tiki room. The sign outside reads "Under New Management" indicating the change of the show and the addition of Zazu and Iago. I hope the new managers get fired and the old ones reclaim their place in Disney lore. Overall, slightly entertaining, but nothing you have to see.
