| ImAmes's Full Review: Dumbo the Flying Elephant |
"Dumbo the Flying Elephant" I feel is one of those rides that should be required for Disney fans of all ages to partake in.
Upon my first trip to Disney World, I passed Dumbo on by, thinking to myself that I would like to reserve that ride for myself and the child or children that I would someday have. I know, it sounds corny, but I would make several more trips to Disney World, and each and every time, I passed it on by, keeping my silent promise.
Finally, last year, I got to take, my then 5 year old, on the flight of a lifetime. My daughter knew of my reservation with this ride for her, which made her more excited to go on with Mommy:)
The line for this ride was our longest line in Disney World, not the Magic Kingdom, ALL of Walt Disney World! THIS is how popular this ride is! There are only a small number of Dumbo's, so the the line moves quite slowly. The line is located under an awning so it gives you a break from the hot sun and any rainy weather, although I am pretty sure Dumbo is shut down in dismal weather.
As my daughter, Kyra, and I board "our" Dumbo, she screams with delight that our Dumbo is wearing a pink hat- her favorite color! Before the ride begins, my husband calls to us for a quick picture and starts to tape us with the camcorder.
The ride starts up and I let Kyra operate Dumbo to fly low or high-she decides to fly him high. I felt like a child again as we flew past the tops of trees and past the back of the castle-it feels like a true fairy tale for a brief moment. Kyra laughs with joy, thanking me for taking her on the ride. In my mind I was thinking, "No Kyra, thank you for fulfilling this special reservation." I hugged her as we kept flying, each time we passed Daddy we would wave and smile!
Timothy Mouse, and his famous feather that helped Dumbo believe he could fly, are the center of the attraction, keeping an eye over all the Dumbo's.
Dumbo is about a 2-3 minute ride, which I feel should be longer because of the long wait, but I understand that they need to give everyone a turn in a day's time.
As Dumbo landed, I squeezed my daughter's hand and whispered in her ear "That was the best." To which she replied, "Yes Mommy, I know." :)
This ride is located right next to Cinderella's Golden Carousel and kiddy corner from "Ariel's Grotto" in which you can meet Ariel herself and have your picture taken with the famous Mermaid!
I hope you can enjoy this special ride with your child now or someday, make it a special moment that they will tell and share with THEIR children! And as always, have a wonderful vacation at Walt Disney World!
