| chelledun's Full Review: Peter Pan's Flight |
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly
Most of us remember this catchy tune from the Peter Pan Disney animated feature when we are younger, but this ride gives you a chance to live out the childhood fantasy of flying over London with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. This ride is located in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom.
The Plot
Riders begin by being loaded into flying ships with sails in a variety of colors. The ship takes off, and the riders fly through the nursery where the Wendy, Micheal, and John live. Then, the rails underneath the ship disappear, and youre flying!
The flying ship continues to take riders through the beautiful sights of London at night, and over the magical Never-Neverland. Mermaids, Indians, and pirates can be seen below. After a few twists and turns the ship travels through the pirate ship where Wendy is being held captive at the edge of the plank, and then through the victorious scene where Peter Pan has rescued her and commandeered the ship, leaving the evil Captain Hook to run from the alligator who pursues him.
Mechanics
This is a continually loading ride inside a pavilion, similar to the Winnie the Pooh or Snow White attractions. Two people or three smaller ones can fit comfortably into the ship. The ride itself is very smooth and well constructed. Duration is approximately three minutes. Figures and scenery within the ride are two and three dimensional. The décor is bright and whimsical, if not particularly realistic.
Who is this ride for?
Children of all ages will love this ride. Although the ride takes place in the dark, the mood is pleasant and there is little to scare small children. Although Captain Hook appears, he is never menacing towards the riders as is the witch in Snow White. The boats move slowly and smoothly through the attraction.
Touring groups with older children or adults only may be tempted to skip this attraction, due to its location in Fantasyland . However, this ride is enjoyed and well loved by groups of all ages. I encourage any first-time visitor to take time to enjoy this piece of Disney magic. This ride is my familys favorite of the Fantasyland group. Despite the large number of times (probably over 50) I have ridden, I still find myself experiencing the thrill of Disney at its best every time I ride Peter Pans Flight.
When should I go?
Peter Pan has enjoyed continuing popularity over the years. The ride itself is also rather slow-loading and can accommodate a relatively few number of riders. As a results, lines of 30-90 minutes can build by late morning and tend to linger until time for the parade. This may seem an unreasonable wait for a ride which is less than three minutes long.
To avoid lines, visit Peter Pan early, very late, or use the FASTPASS system to reserve a time slot. Tourists with young children who plan on starting touring in Fantasyland should ride Peter Pan second, after Dumbo. Older groups should head there after riding the three Mountain roller coasters. If you miss it in the morning, try again during an evening parade. Whenever you go, however, be sure not to miss this simple, beautiful attraction.
