General Information
You can find The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in at the Magic Kingdom. It is in Fantasyland, which is directly behind the castle. The pavilion it is housed in was formerly the location of Mr. Toads Wild Ride, which sadly is no longer in existence. If you look closely, you can find a picture of Mr. Toad in the new ride handing the deed to Owl. The ride is based on the book series about Winnie the Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Woods, which has been the subject of many Disney cartoon videos and recently movies.
This attraction, as many others in Fantasyland, does not load very quickly and cannot take many too many riders per hour as compared to some of the theater shows and continuous loading omnimover types such as Spaceship Earth. Riders board giant honey pots to take their tour of the Hundred Acre Woods, and each honey pot can only accommodate four to six riders. The honey pots must be stopped individually for loading. As a result, lines of over an hour can form relatively quickly. FASTPASS is available, but if you visit early in the day the line shouldnt be too bad. I usually hurry to ride the three roller coasters and then proceed immediately to Fantasyland at the parks opening and the wait is rarely longer than ten minutes. If you have small children, consider heading straight to this attraction if you think they will want to ride it more than once.
The Ride Experience
The queue area is decorated with pages from the Pooh books by A. Milne. This gives you something to read as you wait, and begins to get you into the right frame of mind to enjoy this attraction. Sometimes, but not always, there is a honey odor wafting around the waiting area and gift shop. I have encountered this less on recent visits, however. When you reach the front of the line you will be loaded into your big honey pot and enter the world of Pooh and his friends. Appearances are made by Pooh, Piglet, Kanga, Roo, Eeyore, Tigger, and Christopher Robin. Eeyore will, of course, always be my favorite. The following are some of my favorite parts of the attraction.
-The most wonderful thing about Tigger is hes the only one, and youll get to hear him sing all about it while he bounces around his part of this attraction. In fact, your car will begin to bounce along with him while he sings!
- Piglets story about the very rainy day in the Hundred Acre Woods is brought to life, as your honey pot floats through a very wet and soggy forest. You can hear the rain coming down around you and you will see household objects and animals floating by around you.
-Anyone who is familiar with Poohs stories and movies knows that he and his friends are very frightened of Heffalumps and Woozles! Heffalumps tend to look something like elephants, and woozles look kind of like weasles. In this ride, riders can see that Pooh is fiercely guarding his honey from these frightening creatures, and drifts off into a dream sequence. You can then travel into his dream, which seems to be full of these brightly colored creatures. The room is bright and has mirrors all over, with kind of a fun house feel.
Throughout the ride, cheerful songs are played which many people will recognize from the various Pooh films. The atmosphere in the ride is bright and cheerful, and nothing unexpected pops out to scare little ones. Its a great ride, my only complaint is that it should be a little longer for the wait (Its about three or four minutes long).
If you simply must have a souvenir of your ride, there is Pooh-specific merchandise available in the gift shop directly after the ride. Much of it can be found other places, but I really liked the mini stuffed Heffalumps and Woozles and didnt run into them elsewhere.
Overall
I think this ride is one of the best at the Magic Kingdom in terms of being enjoyable for the whole family. It wont thrill you like Space Mountain, but it is a pleasant experience. Kids will love the bright atmosphere and adorable characters, and adults will be familiar with the stories from the books and videos. The ride is very well done and there is a lot to look at. Be sure to stop by the Hundred Acre Woods on your next Disney visit!
