Getting to the ride
Along with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain is located in the Frontierland section in the park. Upon entering the Magic Kingdom, I recommend taking the less jammed route through Adventureland and walking across to Frontierland. Once inside Frontierland, Splash Mountain is in the back corner adjacent to Big Thunder. It is very hard to miss.
The Line
Being one of the most popular attractions at the Magic Kingdom, Splash Mountain is known to build a long stand-by line very quickly. Expect to wait 30 minutes in off-peak times of the year, and 1-2 hours during spring break or summer. The queue is themed, and there is a lot of shade. When you reach the inside, air-conditioned portion of the line there will be a 20 minute wait left until you board the boats.
Disney offers its guests a free system called Fast Pass. Most of the major attractions, including Splash, Space, and Big Thunder Mountains, as well as the Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan, and The Haunted Mansion offer the system. Each of these rides has two separate lines. The first is the stand-by, which is the normal line, and the second is the fast pass line, where guests with fast pass tickets enter. To get a fast pass ticket, just insert your admissions ticket and out pops a ticket with a one hour time frame to return.
*Hint* On a busy day, I have used this method to get two rides on Splash Mountain in a day. Arrive at the park at opening, and head right over to Splash Mountain. Grab a fast pass, and quickly head over to Big Thunder Mountain. The wait at Big Thunder should be around 10 - 20 minutes. After riding this, take the short walk to Liberty Square and ride the Haunted Mansion, which rarely ever has a line over 30 minutes. After this, it should be time for your fast pass at Splash Mountain. In under two hours, you will have covered 3 of the Magic Kingdom's Major attractions. Also, to sneak in a second ride, Splash Mountain's line will shorten in the evening.
The Ride
Hopefully, light-hearted guests won't be turned away from the ride's large, visible drop. When entering the boats, you first notice there are no seat belts or lap bars, giving an open feel. The entire ride lasts nearly 10 minutes, and every second is fun. Besides the fun final drop, there are a couple other small drops. The journey follows Briar Rabbit as he tries to escape Briar Fox. You visit Briar Rabbit's house and travel through the Laughing Place. The rabbit does get caught by the fox, but he escapes in the end. The final drop is thrilling and fun, and contrary to popular belief won't soak you. No matter what age, most guests leave this ride with a moderate splash and a smile on their face.
