Spending a Honeymoon is great. Getting on Space Mountain makes it all the more better. If you read any of my other recent review you already know that in April I my wife and I went to Disney World for our Honeymoon. If you haven’t read any of them you know now where I spent my honeymoon. Anyway, back to Space Mountain. I went on it at least three times while there. In my opinion it is the best indoor coaster in the Magic Kingdom. Oh wait; it is the only one in the Magic Kingdom.
Space Mountain is located off on the far edge of the Tomorrow Land section of the park. If you have never seen it, it is hard to miss. The building that houses this ride is a huge building with a white cone shape roof. The entrance is facing the Carousel of Progress, sort of angled out of sight. Once you enter the building you will walk through a tunnel that seems to take you to the opposite end of the building. The passageway looks like it was taken out of the movie 2001:A Space Odyssey. Along this passage there are many holographic pictures of stars, space stations, rockets wising by, and astronauts floating around while working to name a few of them. Once at the end of the passage you have a choice of two different tracks (it doesn’t really matter which one you pick since they are mirror images of each other). So once you have selected your track, or assigned one by a ride attendant, you wait in another line. In these lines you can look up at the pitch-black cieling with projected stars on it along with flying asteroids and shooting stars. You can also see the cars of the coaster zipping around the track (which can’t be seen due to the darkness). After about a ten or twenty wait in this line you finally board your two-car rocket. Three people sit in a front to back line in each car. Once securely in the rocket car you are moved around the corner into a launch position. Here you wait for about 10 seconds before you are rocketed down a short hill, around a corner, through a tunnel of lights zipping by and finally onto the chain lift. That was fun but it only gets better. After the lift the rocket you are in zips around the track going up and down hills, twisting around sharp curves, and bunny hops all while in extreme darkness with the only light being glow in the dark stars that are painted on every thing on and around the track. After about three minutes your rocket gets to a docking where you get out. Now to exit the ride you must take a long passageway back to the place where you first entered. Along this passage way are television and displays all showing the possibility of mankind's future. At the end of the passage you are dumped into a gift shop (this is not uncommon in Disney World).
That was exciting. If you do venture to the Magic Kingdom and love coasters don’t skip this one. One suggestion is that you get the fast pass on this one or you will be waiting in line for a very long time.
