In early December of 2002, I took a trip to the Orlando area with my wife, daughter, and cousins. This was our sixth time visiting Orlando, and our fifth time visiting Magic Kingdom. It was only a short ten to 15 minute drive from my resort located outside of Kissimmee, the town that Magic Kingdom is located in.
Admission & Parking
I am known as a bargain hunter. This means that if I find a very good sale on tickets to an amusement park, I will buy many more tickets for the future instead of paying full price. I also like to negotiate prices which usually works when going to a Disney park. I got the tickets for $30 in 2000 when they were on sale and negotiations were present. This included the Park-Hopper passes which means that you can use the same ticket to go to any of the Disney parks on the same day as visiting another Disney park.
Parking is $7. This includes parking in a gigantic parking lot after being directed to your slot by the parking staff. Then, a tram takes you to the monorail or the ferry. From there, you can use one of the two types of transportation to get to the entrance of Magic Kingdom. I prefer the monorail because it goes through one of the Disney Resorts and it seems faster even though the Disney staff say that the monorail and and ferry go the same speed. Yeah right!
Rides & Attractions (For All Ages)
Pirates Of The Caribbean is a long ride that takes place in a boat. It is indoors and you go through the old times when pirates used to exist. There are pirate battles with guns, cannons, and explosives. There are fake riches, jewels, gold, silver, and diamonds. There are drunk pirates chasing each other around. This ride is very realistic and entertaining. Just remember that it is all fake and you are in no danger as it may seem.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a ride that most people will enjoy. It is a roller coaster in the form of a train. The train goes through caves at high speeds. There are drops and sharp turns. It is as if you are on a wild train going through a 200 ft. mountain and deep caves within it. There are also fake yet steaming volcanoes with rushing lava (fake lava) and water coming out.
Splash Mountain is one of the major attractions at Magic Kingdom. You are in a log boat (made from plastic in the form of a log), and you go up hills and go down hills when getting drenched with water. Before you go down the big, big, big 50ft hill where you really get drenched, you go through a story with Brer Bear, Brer Fox, and Brer Rabbit. There is music such as Zip-I-Dee-Doo-Da after the bad guys get stuck in a cave when trying to eat Brer Rabbit. Splash Mountain comes from the movie Song of the South. Haunted Mansion is one of the neatest attractions. It takes place in an 18th century mansion which turned into a haunted mansion after the owner died. There are 999 ghosts - room for only one more! You enter into the dead center of the entrance when the walls expand and you enter the little cars that take you around. There are ghosts and goblins dancing at the ball. Graves are moving as if there are live bodies under them. The amazing part is when a real ghost sits in the middle of your car! Haunted Mansion is the most amazing ride at Magic Kingdom. See for yourself...if you dare! You can visit my full Haunted Mansion review at http://www.epinions.com/content_90996969092
Peter Pan's Flight is another amazing ride. You go into a flying boat and enter the world of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and Wendy. Escape from Captain Hook as he tries to throw Peter Pan overboard. Ironically, Captain Hook is thrown overboard to the alligators. Return to Neverland on Peter Pan's Flight! Visit my full review at http://www.epinions.com/content_100318088836
Snow White's Scary Adventures is a ride in which you go through the story of Snow White. Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the prettiest of them all? Snow White of course! Venture back into the movie with the Wicked Witch and the poisonous apple. Say hello to the dwarfs, Sneezy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Doc...and the other two that I can't remember.
Mad Tea Party was our life saver. Once being spun around in gigantic tea cups with different colors and designs, it started to rain. Thankfully, the Mad Tea Party has a canopy which saved us from being drenched from the afternoon rain on December 5th.
Dumbo The Flying Elephant is one of the cutest inventions as my co-workers put it. Dumbo, who is a flying elephant, glides around in circles at all different heights after being inspired by the 1941 film.
It's A Small World is another very nice attraction. See over 300 dolls singing It's a small world after all in their different accents and clothes depending on the country that they come from. Feel as if you are in many different countries at a time watching detailed dolls sing the same song over and over and over.
The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh is a ride most appreciated by the little ones. Go through a usual day with Winnie The Pooh, Tiger, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Gopher, Owl, Kanga, and Roo. Help Winnie find his honey. Have you seen my honey?
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is when you join Buzz Lightyear as he tries to save the universe from the evil Zurg, the emperor. Take your laser guns and score as many Zurg Points by aiming towards all the Zs that you see. At the end, your points are all added up so you can know what you want to beat the next time you go on! Space Mountain is the most popular and best attraction at Magic Kingdom. Here is my complete review http://www.epinions.com/content_79054540420
Indy Speedway is another big attraction but I still can not understand why. You go in a racing car and go around a racing track at seven MPH. Rubber tracks keep your car on the road and prevent you from crashing. However, kids seem to enjoy it since they feel like they can drive their own car. My cousin who I went on it with, who it seven, loved it but couldn't steer so we kept on bumping from one side of the rubber line to the other. The steering wheel didn't work that well either.
Fastpass
Fastpass is the way to skip most of the line and get on the ride. You may not even know it, but your park ticket is a Fastpass! Insert your ticket into the Fastpass machine located at the exit of the ride you want to use your Fastpass for. Then, another ticket will come out saying the times that you can return to use your Fastpass ticket, and the time you can get another Fastpass ticket. The Fastpass ticket brings you towards the front of the line. It comes in handy for those days where the parks are really busy. Believe me; no one likes to stand in a line for Space Mountain for two hours!
Food
Food is one of the major issues for amusement parks. Let's just put it this way...do you want to pay $5 for a hot dog? If not, bring your own food because you will only be overcharged for the hot dogs pretzels, chicken fingers, fries, or burgers at Magic Kingdom...let alone any other park.
Maintenance
Magic Kingdom seems to be very clean and tidy as there are many trash cans. Actually, there was a talking trash can! It was powered by one of the Disney staff members who was hidden and he would control the trash can by moving it. It had wheels at the bottom and it would follow visitors around. It also had a speaker so it could say things. We saw a little boy running away from it and the trash can said, You're speeding. I need to see license and registration. We got quite a laugh out of that.
Overall Thoughts
Magic Kingdom is the most enchanting Disney park of all. There is something for all ages. Little kids will enjoy Winnie The Pooh, Snow White, Peter Pan, Indy Speedway, Buzz Lightyear, It's A Small World, Dumbo, and the Mad Tea Party. Older kids will enjoy Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Haunted Mansion. Things to be improved on are food and updating older rides such as the Indy Speedway. Things that are just right are just about all other rides and the talking trash can.
