Pros: A magical place to honeymoon: great food, top-notch resorts, many romantic activities.
Cons: A very expensive honeymoon, especially if you stay in a Disney World resort.
The Bottom Line: When you are planning your honeymoon DO NOT discount Disney World. It is a magical place where the excitement, fun, and importance of your wedding day lives on.

Disney World. What do those two words first conjure up images of for you? Children? Long lines? Families? Expensive food? For my husband and I, our first thought is romance.
Last month we got married and for our honeymoon we went to Disney World. While this may not seem like the most romantic place on earth to honeymoon, it actually was quite magical. We choose Disney World because we did not want to travel too far after a very exhausting wedding. Originally we were going to go to Hawaii - but having gone there before and taking the 12 hour plane ride we decided against it. Disney World was less than a 3 hour plane ride from our wedding site in upstate New York and ultimately had everything we wanted from a honeymoon in Hawaii: romance, great lodging, delicious food, and opportunities for pure relaxation.
Our honeymoon to Disney started out great before we even got there! Before we left on our trip we ordered Mickey and Minnie Mouse bride and groom ears from Disney Merchandising. We wore the ears to the airport and our airline (Delta) immediately upgraded us to first class in celebration of our honeymoon! We were not expecting such treatment, but it was greatly appreciated and a wonderful start to our honeymoon.
When we got to Orlando we took the Mears Transportation van (which we purchased tickets for online ahead of time) from the airport to our hotel in the Disney Resort. The trip was fast, uneventful, and easy. As soon as we got to our hotel -The Swan and Dolphin (which is considered an Epcot resort) we were treated like royalty. Maybe it had something to do with our hats :) but again our room was upgraded to a beautiful balcony room with a great view of Disney's MGM Studios.
For our first night of the honeymoon we walked around the HUGE resort. It totally reminded us of something out of Los Vegas. For anyone not familiar with "The Swan and Dolphin" it is mammoth. The grounds were impecable, the room was bright and nicely decorated, and the resort had about 20 restaurants. We also liked it because, as honeymooners, we did not want to be in a loud, overly kiddy populated hotel. The Swan was so large that we hardly saw anyone else and felt like we were in Hawaii in our own private villa. It was very romantic and serene.
Our first night also took the free "Friendship Boat" from the resort's boardwalk for a ride. It drops you off at either MGM or EPCOT. We took it to EPCOT and boarded the monorail for a ride through the Disney grounds. Just hearing all of the excited families and couples get in and out of the monorail talking about their day in the parks made us feel very excited and lucky to be there. We ended the night watching the fireworks above EPCOT - which we could see from our resort's grounds.
I will not go into tons of details :), but I do want to make perfectly clear that a honeymoon in Disney World is pure, sweet, honey. It was a total extension of the warmth, magic, and excitement we felt on our wedding day. When we walked around the parks we sometimes wore our bride and groom hats and it was overwhelming the number of "Congratulations!" we received. Each night when we went to the fireworks in EPCOT, parade in the Magic Kingdom, or laser show in MGM, my husband would kiss me and whisper in my ear "This is for us you know." Of course while I knew it wasn't just "for us" we certainly felt that way.
In Disney World the sky was the limit in terms of honeymoon activities. We had the opportunity to just relax in our resort and get massages; eat fabolous meals; have fun in the parks and at character dinners (which totally made us feel like kids); and, more importantly, hold hands a lot.
As we held hands on the monorail or in the parks and watched all the families parade by with smiles on their faces it only reaffirmed the importance and significance of the vows we made to each other a few days before. And, when we saw the fighting and crying children we were very glad, for this trip at least, it was just us.
It truly made us appreciate being alone together, even though we were in a place with thousands of other people. Disney World truly made us feel like a family - even though for now, we are a family of two. And, as we were leaving, we said we can't wait until we have little ones of our own to bring back to Disney and share the magic with.
