The TDK veloCD 241040 is the fastest cd burner I've ever used. It takes just 4 minutes to burn an entire 80 minute CD.

How is the performance?
This CDRw drive is FAST. Burn a CD in 4 minutes. The drive uses advanced BurnProof technology which prevents those hated Buffer Underrun errors. So if you have a slow hard drive, do not worry, this cd recorder will pick up where it left off if the buffer emptys completely. Does it work? Yes, and very well. However the Rip performance of the drive doesn't even come close to the rated 40x spec. When ripping an MP3 with Real Jukebox, the drive cruses along at 10x-20x rip speed. With error correction enabled it cruses at 5x-15x.
How's the software?
TDK included NeroBurning ROM 5.5 as the CD Burner application. This program will burn everything although not MP3 encoded cd's. UPDATE: The free upgrade from www.nero.com includes the new Nero Express application which will allow the burning of MP3 CD's. These programs work very well and are eaisly understood. The TDK MixMaster is something I don't use because of my preference to use Windows Media Player or Real Jukebox. The MixMaster software will only rip music into WAV files, not MP3's. InCD is software that lets you drag and drop files onto your CDRw disc through the Windows interface. This program works well too.
